Hendrick de Clercq (1776-1850) x Mary Ledyard
Son of Pieter de Clercq Jacobsz and Agatha Stockelaer.
Hendrik de Clercq, born Amsterdam (The Netherlands) 30 Nov. 1776, settled in Cazenovia, NY (U.S.A.) in the spring of 1794, where he bought land from the Holland Land Company (Road Township, lots nrs. 2 and 3; totaling 300 acres) and became farmer; built the ‘Holland House’ on Rippleton Road (1798), later a new one nearby (1840); member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cazenovia 1817-, died Cazenovia 7 Nov. 1850, buried South Cemetary Cazenovia, married Cazenovia 10 Febr. 1799 Mary (Polly) Ledyard, born Groton, CT 17 Sept. 1780, member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cazenovia 1806-, died Cazenovia 2 Febr. 1869, buried South Cemetary Cazenovia, dr. of Captain Youngs and Elizabeth Billings.
In 1851, a few months after Hendricks death, his oldest son Peter de Clercq visited his Dutch relatives in Holland. He took with him some photographs (daguerreotypes), including this one of his fathers house. It's the second one Hendrik built on Rippleton Road in Cazenovia, in 1840, nearby his first home. In front of the house is a large familygroup.
